Hi, I’m Derek.

Curious, creative, and always exploring something new.

Explore My World

A quick look at the different ways I create, challenge myself, contribute, and grow.

CREATE & EXPLORE

I turn ideas into things I can build, test, and improve—from robotic hands and 3D-printed designs to art and stop-motion stories.

ACTIVITIES

Through sports, debate, robotics, and math, I challenge myself, learn alongside others, and discover new interests beyond my studio.

GIVE BACK

I make assistive tools, help assemble prosthetic hands, and teach younger students—sharing what I know and inviting others to help.

LEARN & GROW

My achievements in math, coding, art, and writing mark moments of progress and encourage me to keep learning and trying new challenges.

Feature Projects

These projects reflect three different ways I use making and design: exploring new ideas, contributing to people farther away, and responding to needs in my own community.

Robotic Hand Research

An ongoing independent project exploring robotic finger movement, mechanics, and control.

3D-Printed Prosthetic Hands

3D-printed prosthetic hands made and assembled for recipients in Kenya and China.

Assistive Tools for the Community

Practical assistive tools designed and 3D-printed for real needs in my local community.

Service & Community

I enjoy using what I know to help others—through making, teaching, and working with my community. From prosthetic hands and assistive tools to 3D printing workshops, these experiences have shown me how skills can become more meaningful when they are shared.

Prosthetic Hands & e-NABLE

I help make and assemble 3D-printed prosthetic hands for recipients in Kenya and China through the e-NABLE community.

Assistive Tools for Community

I design and 3D-print practical assistive tools at no cost for a local disability resource center based on real needs.

3D Printing class & Workshops

I teach younger students 3D printing and organize hands-on workshops where we work together to assemble prosthetic hands and print assistive tools for people with disabilities.

Still Exploring

DAX Labs is where I collect the things I’m building, learning, and sharing. I’m still exploring what I want to create next, but I hope to keep turning curiosity into projects—and projects into something useful for others.
